Wood Stoves Inserts are heating devices very similar to fireplaces, but with a little difference that instead of using masonry walls as a hearth, they have a firebox that contains the fire. On the other hand, this categorizing more applicable for older fireplaces that were built along with houses, whereas more contemporary fireplace units would have a firebox on their own. Which makes wood stove inserts and fireplaces almost the same and the terms can often be used interchangeably.
Comparing to older models of fireplaces, wood stove inserts offer a few considerable advantages over them. The most important of them would be that wood stove inserts are much more efficient than older fireplaces: the heat is not wasted for heating masonry and as a firebox is usually equipped with some sort of a lining, it will add up to the heat output of the stoves. Cleaning is often not considered as a big deal, but in fact it can be and it much easier to clean wood stove inserts than ordinary fireplaces – smooth walls and floor of the stoves will help a lot as well as ash trays that most of the modern inserts are equipped with.
Modern wood stove inserts are usually have an option of installing auxiliary fans that will help distributing warm air around a room or a whole house; they can be equipped with thermostats as well that will control temperature in particular area or in a whole house. Mantels, which are pretty much integral part of any fireplace, are optional for wood stove inserts, but in most cases they're installed as they give your stove better and more elegant look.
Wood stove inserts share the same pros and cons common for all wood burning stoves. They're more efficient comparing to coal stoves, but not as efficient as pellet or gas stoves. But on the other hand, they're more cost-efficient comparing to pellet or gas stoves, especially if you have access to cheap firewood. As our environment is getting more important for us these days, many people are concerned with a carbon impact that wood burners leave in our atmosphere. Again, contemporary wood stove inserts are built in a way to reduce emission of carbon dioxide as much as possible.
Considering all advantages and drawbacks of wood burners, it's quite likely that wood stove inserts will stay on the market for a long time. For some people, who are looking for a reliable and cost-efficient heat source for their houses, wood stove inserts can be the best choice.
